You may not have heard of an artist called Nocras earlier, but if you play a lot of Japanese games you might have encountered his act upon without realising IT. In the previous he's provided 2D and 3D artistic creation for games including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Final Fantasy XIV, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, to name just a a few. But now Nocras is turning his deal to game evolution with Tasomachi: Behind the Twilight, a 3D get/platformer that looks—as you might expect from a stager game artist like Nocras—identical beautiful so.

"I love making 2D and 3D art for myself and others," he says. "But I felt a need to express myself and the beauty of the world, which I could only act properly through a videogame of my own." In the spirit of classic 3D platformers, a big theatrical role of Tasomachi is collection items hidden approximately its serene Ghibli-esque world. "It feels like the world unfairly uninhabited the collect-a-thon platformer," says Nocras. "I yearned-for to bring the genre backward with beautiful visuals that produce the identical sense of cheerless and delight that I originally felt in my young person."

In Tasomachi you play as an explorer, Yukumo, whose airship crashes in a enigmatically abandoned village covered in a mysterious, supernatural mist. With the help of catlike creatures known as Nezu, she works to fair the fog, and renovate her broken down dirigible, away solving puzzles, completing platforming challenges, and hunting for hidden items. These items, called Sources of Earth, appear A glow lanterns. Some are easygoing to encounte; others are more smartly hidden, requiring complete geographic expedition of the town and surrounding areas.

Refreshingly, there are no enemies in Tasomachi, nor whatsoever combat. The focus here is squarely on geographic expedition and discovery, which gives it a discriminating, arranged back feel for. The euphony is fantastic too, with a chilly, lackadaisical soundtrack composed by Japanese musician Ujico. The totally vibe is just extremely discriminate.

Even the Sanctuaries—platforming sections you take over to skilled to drive the fog away and make else parts of the world—are ne'er that heavy. In that respect are a a couple of trickier sections here and there, but mostly the game resists throwing anything too frustrating at you. IT helps that Yukumo only has a handful of moves—a scoot, a drop, and a jump—which way you get into't own to twis with any complicated controls or constantly learn new abilities.

The downside of this is that Tasomachi can feel too simplistic at times. The grapheme movement is very basic, with no real sense of weight or momentum. The uncomplete UI feels weirdly proxy—especially when everything else in the bet on looks so nice. I couldn't rule any graphics settings; just the choice to shift my resolution. And some of the transitions between animations are inept and robotic. The game looks lucullan, but it feels kinda cheap.

Even so, on that point's something very compelling or so it. The world is enchanting enough that the desire to see more of it occasionally outweighs its shortcomings. Tasomachi is being discharged via Steam and GOG on April 14, and information technology might constitute worthy a look if the things you enjoy most about 3D platformers are exploration and sniffing out hidden items, not bouncing on heads.
